Tanya Vandepoorter

Tanya Vandepoorter was born in Wokingham, Berkshire and now lives and works in France. She swapped London for Paris in her early 20’s and began a love affair with France that has lasted for over 30 years. A career working for some of the most iconic music industry titans in the 80’s and 90’s (RCA, Arista, WEA, Rough Trade to name but a few) provided the material for Tanya’s first book.

A French husband, three children, and an everlasting appreciation for Angela Lansbury followed, as did the fairytales. Writing them for her family and friends, they mirrored what her children lived, loved, and were more often than not, petrified of. Inspiration for the setting of these stories was provided by the beautiful French countryside of Les Impressionists, and later, the grounds of the wild and majestic Osterley Park in London. Glistening lakes, enchanted forests and hidden glades that really do exist – even though Tanya only ever caught a fleeting glance of these elusive landscapes, while being yanked along by her massive dog Febe (think Hound of the Baskervilles), as a beast so huge and scary was she, only ‘off the beaten path’ would do.

The dog, not Tanya
