Creative Questions: Meet the writer - Liana Wall

19 January 2021

Interview of the Month with Author Liana Wall

So, lets start with the easy ones...

What is your name? Liana Wall

What genre do you write? Children's fiction

Which author would you like to invite for dinner? David Walliams. Not only for our shared passion for children’s stories, but I think he would be very entertaining, and the night would be full of laughter.

When did you start writing? From childhood, I had a passion for short stories, poems, and also writing song lyrics. So, as long as I can remember.

What does your writing space look like? A little cluttered with sheets of paper scattered around, along with notebooks and my laptop. I like to take a lot of notes and sketch the story characters as I write. I don’t have a set desk as I like to write in the moment, which can be from the sofa, the coffee table, the bed, even on an aeroplane.

How often do you write? As much as I can. I like to add to stories when the idea is there, sometimes this can be in the middle of the night. I am a night owl, so my imagination comes to life then.

Do you have any advice for those starting out? Just go for it! If you have an idea, write it down. You will find the natural flow of writing will then begin as your idea unfolds.

What is your next project? Completing the second book in The Wishing Well Collection series. A sequel to the first book where the magical fairies take on new adventures and we meet exciting new characters.

This section is a creative exercise. Book titles as questions.

let’s see what you come up with...

What Price Love? (Book by Stephanie Laurens) Love doesn’t cost a thing. Well, maybe it does.

Love can be bought through energy, which costs us our life force. There are countless ways that we pay the price of loving another, and the people who are willing to go to any lengths just to ensure the happiness of their loved one. Don’t forget we have Valentine’s day, anniversaries and birthday gifts which we buy to keep our loved ones happy and content … especially that guilty bunch of flowers following the argument over the overflowing bin in the kitchen. Lol

Who Moved My Cheese? (Book by Spencer Johnson) As he concealed the final block of cheese behind the milk carton in the fridge. He smiled knowing that the final piece would be there, in secret, waiting for him until that evening, to enjoy, in his armchair with a glass of tawny port.

Arriving home with the thought of that small, yellow, cheddar delight still waiting there just for him. He crept to the kitchen, slowly opened the fridge door, and to his horror the milk carton was not there, to protect and shield, and there was no sight of his sacred, hidden piece of cheese. Forgetting in that moment that he was the sly, sneaky one who hid this final piece of cheese away from the world, he slammed the fridge door and screamed at the top of his voice, “WHO MOVED MY CHEESE!”

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Book by Philip K Dick) That’s a thought! “Counting sheep,” has been, throughout history, a way to fall asleep. Mixing modern technology with sheep could be fascinating. The world we live in at the moment with technology and science is beyond what we see, I reckon electric sheep will be seen in farms next, or as a cool pet!

Thank you so much
